A new centralised airport operations centre in Pointe-Noire, Congo
In parallel with the opening of the new terminal at Pointe-Noire Airport in January 2019, AERCO decided to plan and implement a centralised airport operations centre concept. This operations centre is designed to serve as a central point for all inputs and outputs related to landside and airside operations, airport resource management, airport service performance monitoring, emergency response, etc.
The main objectives of this new Pointe-Noire airport operations centre are:
- Manage and coordinate all operational activities of the airport more effectively.
- Improve the overall level of service, in order to make it compatible with the high quality of the new infrastructure.
- Achieve the performance objectives required in the concession contract and proposed in Egis' strategic guidelines.
- Leverage the functionalities of the new Airport Operations Centre to further develop the versatility of shift operating personnel (rather than having staff assigned to specific activities) and ultimately optimize human resources based on the actual decrease in activities.
The concept of a centralised airport operations centre may not be appropriate for all airports, depending on their size and available hardware and software facilities. At both Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville airports, this new organisation was designed, to mitigate the impact of the continuous decline in passenger and cargo traffic recorded over the past three years at both airports.
So far, the comments we have received since the implementation of this concept last January makes us believe that it was the right thing to do.
