Pointe Noire: refurbishment and reinforcement of the runway under traffic

Pointe Noire: refurbishment and reinforcement of the runway under traffic
13/08/2016
Following a preparation period, major works to refurbish/reinforce the 2620 meters runway have started beginning of February 2016.

For the whole duration of works, the aerodrome will be closed every night from 22H00 to 08H00 local time, except for the nights between Sundays and Mondays, in order to allow Cargo traffic to operate, as no parking positions are available for wide body cargo aircrafts during day time.

Works will mainly consist in:

  • Adding 4 coatings of bituminous mix after planning and leveling of the original runway surface
  • Widening shoulders to 7.50 meters that will in turn necessitate the setting-up of a new runway
  • Lighting supply grid
  • Creating drainage valleys on either side of the runway for the treatment of storm water

Despite some rainfall events (one shall not be surprised as it is the wet season), works are in full swing under the supervision of EGIS working day and night
